I donapos;t like it when my mom puts frozen blueberries in the pancakes. It makes the pancake surrounding the blueberries very soggy. It only tastes good when she uses fresh blueberries.
I always pretend Iapos;m not hungry when she makes them with frozen blueberries. So I told her this morning that I hated the way the frozen blueberries make the pancakes soggy. She said that everyone else likes it and I was like no, only dad likes it. And she said thatapos;s good enough for me.

We toured the construction and took some time praying in the new building.

We watch part of a bond film and discussed having spiritual conversations.

As part of being agents who live out the mission, it is our responsibility to have spiritual conversations with people. There are people all around us and we can help them take first steps and/or next steps...people like our unchurched friends, or people in our journey group or even our family. However, have conversations about God aren't always easy and they can be uncomfortable. So, what should we do to have spiritual conversations with people. Here are a few ideas we talked about...

1) Understand that it isn't optional so be intentional. Jesus didn't give us an occasion commission to do when we feel like it but a Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20). So let's be intentional or it would happen. Go to the small places around town. Eat lunch in the break room. Hang out in the front yard, not the back. Schedule time to talk with your family or talk about church on the way home or at lunch on Sunday. Have coffee with individuals in your group...whatever, be intentional. One of the best ideas shared was asking people what they did this past weekend - then you can say...I went to church

2) No matter what, it will be uncomfortable. We might not know what to say or do. So we are uncomfortable and they are uncomfortable so it will be uncomfortable. But someone's relationship with God is worth some discomfortable isn't it. Just be respectful and loving and it will be good.

3) R-E-S-P-E-C-T - we need to again peoples respect if we want to speak into their lives. It might be a long-term process. I shared how I help someone move in recently at 10 pm at night. I was already gaining respect (then they moved out 5 days later and I will probably never see them again).

4) Listen. Ask Questions. Understand Their Story. Most people aren't just gonna come out and say that their marriage stinks or that they really want to talk to someone about God. So listen and you might need to ask questions and read between some lines to see their story.

5) God's Story. Your story. Once you know their story. Share how God has effected your life, your story. Be prepared to share God's story of love for us (Romans 6:23)

6). One Thing. When you go to meet and take with someone - if it is your kids, your spouse, someone in your group or your neighbor - have one main thing you want to chat about. If you have one goal, you can prepare to share about it or ask the right questions or keep the conversation focused.

At the end we were challenged to have a spiritual conversation in the next week with someone. Then we ate more donuts and cider.

There is a very good chance that Iapos;m about to get hooked on Linux. Kubuntu looks freakinapos; amazing. If only CS3 were Linux-compatible. Ah well, you canapos;t win apos;em all. Iapos;m such a nerd. As long as I donapos;t learn any programming languages beyond Javascript and PHP, I should be fine, right? I dunno. Itapos;s a chronic disease. Iapos;ve already mentioned that I lost roughly the better half of my wardrobe in a luggage debacle with Delta during the Las Vegas trip. It seems, though, that my losses donapos;t end there. Wednesday morning, after I returned from work, my computer showed a gray screen and an error message in that it failed to restart. Looking through the report, it seems a couple of critical files got corrupted somehow while I was away. I attempted a number of remedies like rebooting the computer and returning the computerapos;s memory�to a prior, saved�state, to no avail. I couldnapos;t access any of my personal files, either. In the end, after cataloging in my head what exactly I would lose, I returned the computer to its factory settings - a method that did work.

Most of the documents I cared about were either old enough to be on my old desktop or on the web in some format. Most of the pictures I cared about were also on the web. My songs are all on my Ipod, and any games I had didnapos;t need to be on the computer anyway. My personalized settings are few and far between. So, really, I didnapos;t lose a whole lot. I just have to retrieve it all from the various sources.

Iapos;ll start by saying that I honestly and truly donapos;t wish to offend, insult, upset or do anything negative to any of my fellow nerdsranters. Even though Iapos;ve met none of you in person, I feel a kinship with you all and consider you all friends. I sincerely hope that I can write this in a way that speaks to honesty, facts and the most positive of emotions. Unfortunately, Iapos;ve succumbed to some pretty negative juju in the last few hours and need a reality check. I realize that political choices are personal ones. But nerdsrant has been a shining beacon to what political discourse should be. We have all been able to discuss whatapos;s best for the country that we all love (no, not Iceland) and disagree without resorting to attacking each other personally. Iapos;m proud of my association with a group such as this. I honestly believe that people of all political stripes really want the best for America, their children, and their neighbors. (And no, I havenapos;t had a drop of alcohol.) This is why John McCainapos;s continuous attacks on Barack Obama in recent weeks and especially in tonightapos;s debate have literally made me nauseous. Is it me, or is this a new low in negative campaigning? Iapos;m not saying that you shouldnapos;t vote for McCain if youapos;ve done your research and think heapos;s the best choice. Iapos;m only talking about the political culture of savaging your opponent with lies and half-truths in order to win. If you canapos;t win on the facts without falsely calling your opponent a terrorist by association, maybe you shouldnapos;t win. I once thought Senator McCain was an honest, straight-shooting son-of-a-gun, in all the best ways. I still think that he is, deep down in there somewhere. But as Senator Obama has been pulling ahead in the polls, a desperate tenor has taken over the McCain campaign. Itapos;s as if heapos;s willing to stoop to any level to win. I am so grateful for Senator McCainapos;s service to this country both in the military and in government. But, if he cannot resist the urge to run this dirty campaign, then my heroapos;s feet are truly made of clay. Iapos;m not saying that Senator Obama is perfect. Far from it. But to say that heapos;s palling around with domestic terrorists is a disgusting misrepresentation. To say that heapos;s inexperienced is a red herring. To pick Sarah Palin as running mate speaks to the lowest, most self-serving of intentions (namely, Senator McCain has shown that he cares more about capturing the presidency than in being a good president). Yet, at the same time, I canapos;t really blame Senator McCain for behaving so reprehensibly. His behavior is, in fact, our fault. Politicians continue to run these negative campaigns because they work. We have the power to bring an end to this kind of campaigning. I know everyone reading this votes on the issues and not on the attacks. But, how can we as a nation make the same commitment? How can we stop our fellow citizens from voting on unfounded fears and distractions? In that light, these distractions should be off the table of political discourse:

1. Abortion (the only reasons to be against are religious and emotional (hence personal), which is fine and respectable, but is indicative of an issue that shouldnapos;t be addressed with legislation)
2. Who people marry (really, whatapos;s it to you?)
3. What people do in their bedrooms (again, why do you care?)
4. Using the word "liberal" as an epithet
5. Using the word "conservative" like itapos;s an insult

6. Peopleapos;s religious beliefs
7. Guilt by association (holy hell, I thought we got rid of that with McCarthy)

8. Casting aspersions on the other candidateapos;s patriotism There are powerful people who are using these highly emotional and personal topics as distractions from the real issues. We need to get beyond this. Can we start any political discourse with the understanding that politicians want to promote themselves, but are in public service to do good until proven otherwise (Iapos;m talking to you, Dick Cheney)?

Any political debate should have an instantaneous fact check. Certainly, with the Internet and a non-partisan team of researchers, this is possible. Lies and misrepresentations on either side of the aisle should not be tolerated. Anyone in elected office should be considered continually "under oath" and should be held in contempt and subject to impeachment for lying, just like Bill Clinton was for lying to the grand jury. There should also be a similar oath administered to all candidates. Newly-empowered election boards should have the power to financially sanction any candidate caught lying. Itapos;s regrettable to advocate such a thing, but in the face of an electorate that doesnapos;t know where to turn for the truth, it has become necessary. Yes, this is idealism, and yes it is a ridiculously high standard that we may never achieve. But we should be setting the highest standards possible. Does the greatest nation in the history of civilization deserve any less?

Busy all day, got 4 more contracts prepared, caught up on a whackload of email, sent off a batch of wire transfers, did my routine stuff, etc. Nipped out on my coffee break to purchase "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" for Ceri. Then IMapos;d her on facebook to let her know.
Left at four to go and cast my vote like a good citizen. Duty done, I returned home to find my reward. In the mailbox were two parcels. My free book from Simon and Shuster publishing: "Fathers and Sons" which sounds interesting, and Season One of Torchwood We had French dip for supper with a side salad (mine was lettuce, red cabbage, black grapes with pear dressing, Steveapos;s was regular salad). Then ice cream, tea and Tim-Tams. I was just signing onto facebook when the phone rang. Jennifer, whom I was supposed to meet tomorrow night at Silver City to see "Body of Lies", had gotten the dates mixed up (even though she selected them) and was at the theatre. Could I make it? It was 10 to 7, movie was to start at 10 past. Yeah, why not...thereapos;s a shitload of commercials and trailers before the movie starts. Drove like a fiend, and was sitting down in my seat at 7;10...movie actually started at 7:25. It was excellent...but would have been better with more Russell Crowe, naturally:)

I have been lately working on finishing up my RPG and I have been doing research on the urban legends and mythological creatures like Bloody Mary and Medusa. Some of them are really messed up and strange. There is one that is the Donkey Lady which made me laugh until I clicked to read the background on it. Burn victim driven insane by her children dying and the burn disfurements. Yuck Mothman, Jersey Devil, Howler, hydra, Headless Horseman,all sorts are in my monster manual and I have a style to the game play that makes it easy for the DM to just read the descriptions and what the characters hear without just saying well this is so and so.

Last Friday I was placed in the penalty box by the rest of the role-players as I have been flaking out on going to game. I can not blame them for it as it is reasonable that I should wait until next game campaign to start up again.

I also got from my work place a bunch of studs for my punker jacket. I placed 26 studs on to be the number of how old I am and I will place one more every year to keep track of my age. (Like I would forget)

The film has been having some problems that I hope to get over soon. We did get in the lines for Patches and Hawk which Mark my editor liked.
